Manuscript Format

Technical requirements and formatting guidance for preparing manuscripts submitted to the Sarawak Journal of Pharmacy.

Manuscript Organisation

Each type of manuscript has its own format. In general, submitted manuscripts should include the sections outlined below.

Abstract

Structured abstracts are required for all submissions and should include an introduction (with objectives), methods, results, and conclusion.

The recommended length is approximately 300 words.

Keywords

Authors must provide three to six keywords that characterise the main topics of the article.

Recognised vocabularies related to the discipline, such as MeSH , should be used where appropriate. The use of synonyms is encouraged to improve database indexing.

Main Text

Long manuscripts should use subheadings to improve clarity and readability. Hierarchical heading levels must be clearly distinguishable.

Recommended structure:

File Format

Manuscripts must be submitted as Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx) and must not be locked or protected.

Language

Manuscripts must be written in English (UK). Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to seek professional language editing prior to submission.

Use of a language editing service does not guarantee acceptance. Manuscripts that fail to meet acceptable language standards may be rejected.

Length

There are no strict restrictions on manuscript length, number of figures, or supplementary materials. Authors are encouraged to present findings concisely.

All pages and lines of the manuscript must be numbered.

Font

Manuscripts should be prepared using Times New Roman, font size 12, with double spacing.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures must be numbered sequentially and cited in the order they appear in the text.

Equations

Use Microsoft Word’s Insert → Equation function for mathematical expressions. Avoid using equation editors for single symbols within running text.

Abbreviations

Abbreviations must be defined upon first appearance in both the abstract and main text. Non-standard abbreviations should be used only if they appear at least three times.

Reference Style

The Sarawak Journal of Pharmacy uses the Vancouver referencing style. All citations must appear in the reference list and vice versa.

Authors are encouraged to use citation management software and may refer to sample articles from previous issues or the journal’s manuscript template.

Reminder: Manuscripts that do not comply with these formatting requirements may be returned for correction prior to peer review.
